Rock Binder™ Explained – Your Questions, Answered

Q: What is SRW Rock Binder™?
A: Rock Binder™ is a liquid bonding agent designed to hold a variety of rocks and aggregates in place, accommodating up to 3/4” angular stone and 3/8” round stone. It bonds and stabilizes decorative aggregate, significantly reducing displacement from high winds, leaf blowers, and heavy rain. The treated surface remains flexible and permeable, allowing water to drain through naturally. It is safe for use around children, pets, and plants.
Q: How frequently do I need to reapply Rock Binder™?
A: After the initial two-coat installation, Rock Binder™ is very low maintenance. Only spot or touch-up applications to any loosened areas are needed over time.
Q: What is the coverage rate?
A: Rock Binder™ covers up to 150 square feet per gallon. Coverage may vary depending on the aggregate type and application method.
Q: How many applications are recommended for the initial installation?
A: We recommend applying two coats for the best bond strength and longevity.
First Coat: Spray SRW Rock Binder™ in a slow, even saturating coat.
Note – the product goes on white and dries clear.
Wait 15 – 30 minutes before applying the second coat, allowing the first coat to partially dry and become tacky. Typically, when the product is no longer white.
Second Coat: Spray in a slow, even saturating coat.

Q: How far down into the aggregate will Rock Binder™ penetrate?
A: Rock Binder™ is a topical treatment. It penetrates the top layer of aggregate, bonding stones together at their contact points and wherever the binder coats the surface. It is not designed to saturate deep into the base.
Q: How does Rock Binder™ break down?
A: Rock Binder™ is designed to be durable, but like most surface treatments, it will gradually break down over time due to UV exposure, weather, and foot or environmental activity. Periodic touch-up applications will help maintain bond strength and appearance.
Q: What kind of sprayer can I use?
A: Rock Binder™ works with any kind of handheld or backpack sprayer. SRW offers a 1 Gallon Sprayer and a Heavy-Duty Construction Sprayer, both of which work well for Rock Binder™ applications. Be sure to clean your sprayer immediately after every use.
Q: Do I have to cover the pavers when I’m spraying next to it?
A: Yes. Any pavers, concrete, or asphalt that borders the treatment area should be taped off prior to application. This prevents Rock Binder™ from leaving a slight sheen or color enhancement on those surfaces.
Q: Does it enhance the appearance of the rock?
A: It depends on the type of aggregate. Rock Binder™ can enhance the natural color of certain stones — for example, crushed granite and pea gravel will often appear richer and more vibrant after application. Light-colored stones typically show little to no color change.
Q: Can I walk on it?
A: Rock Binder™ is intended for decorative applications only and is not recommended for areas with foot or vehicular traffic. If you need a binder suited for high-traffic or vehicular use, SRW distributes Romex Hardscapes and their Profi-Deko is specifically designed for that type of installation. Q: Is it safe for children, pets, and plants?
A: Yes! Rock Binder™ is safe for children, plants, and animals.
When applying Rock Binder™ near grass, plants, or flowers, wet the surrounding vegetation first, then spray. Once the application is complete, rinse any vegetation that received overspray with clean water.
Q: Will it affect drainage?
A: No, Rock Binder™ is permeable and allows surfaces to drain and breathe.
Q: Can it be used for temporary erosion control?
A: Yes. Rock Binder™ can be used for temporary erosion control to help manage dust and washout caused by rain events. For this application, dilute 1 part Rock Binder™ with 5 parts water before applying.
Q: Can I use my leaf blower on treated areas?
A: Yes. Once cured, Rock Binder™-treated areas can be maintained with a leaf blower. This makes it an ideal solution for property maintenance crews, who can clear grass clippings and fallen leaves without worrying about displacing the aggregate.
Q: What is the shelf life?
A: Two years. Keep Rock Binder™ from freezing, and store in a cool, dry area with the lid firmly in place.

- Avoid spraying directly onto plants or trees
- Always test in a small, discrete area before use
- Sprays on white, dries clear
- For dust and erosion control: Dilute 1-part SRW Rock Binder with 5 parts water.
- NOT recommended for areas with foot or vehicle traffic
